Nature conservation and winter tourism
New models for gentle winter tourism in the Nature Parks
The Association of Austrian Nature Parks organized on the 20th of November 2009 in cooperation with the Nature Park Riedingtal in Zederhaus and the nature conservation department Salzburg the convention „Nature conservation and winter tourism“. The convention was attended by participants from Nature Parks from entire Austria, from the government, tourism and nature conservation organizations, representatives of the hunters and also by mountain-, ski- and Nature Park-guides.
Six referees introduced conditions for winter tourism in Nature Parks in accord with the nature conservation. In addition, bridges were built by discussions and constructive processes were begun.
Mag. Angelika Thaller (Association of Austrian Nature Parks) presented the study „Tourist potentials of the Austrian Nature Parks“, in which data to the tourism in Austrian Nature Parks is provided. “Österreich Werbung” was represented by Uli Grabitzer (customer management). She presented the profile of “Österreich Werbung” and introduced the brand „Vacation in Austria“, with special consideration of the winter tourism. Mag. Mark Ressel (Biologist and former manager of the Nature Park Sölktäler) introduced the project „Ski tours appropriate for nature – problem solution in the Nature Park Sölktäler“. All interest groups have come to a conflict solution satisfying for all, also for the purposes of the nature conservation. Dipl. Geogr. Willi Seifert (Fachabteilung Raumplanung, Naturschutz, Wegefreiheit, Besucherlenkung, Schutzgebiete) from the Austrian Alpine Club reported about the topic „Nature search – alpine Outdoor sports in the tension field of many-sided interests“. After a lunch, during which the participants discussed about the heard topics, Mag Robert Heuberger (Regionalmanagement Kärnten) presented alternative winter concepts of the Carinthian Nature Parks Dobratsch and Weissensee. The final referee Dr. Christian Baumgartner (Naturfreunde Internationale) gave the participants a view over the borders of Austria to international examples and possibilities of a gentle winter tourism.
It can be said that a conflict-free use of our nature can only be guaranteed by a mutual understanding and dialogue of all interest groups. Just so intact recreation areas are guaranteed for the future for mankind and animals.
