The convention took place on the 30th of May in Weißbach bei Lofer (Salzburg) and was organised by the Association of Austrian Nature Parks (VNÖ) in cooperation with the Nature Conservation Department of the Government of Salzburg and the Nature Park Weißbach. The aim of the event was to give – not only to the participants, but also the referees – an insight into the organisational and financing structures of different Nature Park managements. About 40 participants of the internationally visited conference with representatives from six nations were welcomed by DI Günter Jaritz (Nature Conservation Department, Salzburg Government) and Mayor Josef Michael Hohenwarter (Nature Park representative, Community Weißbach).

The organisational structure of the Carinthian Nature Parks was explained by Mag. Robert Heuberger (Regionalmanagement Kärnten Dienstleistungs GmbH). In Carinthia the Nature Parks are integrated into the regional management. Christian Kayser (Nature Park Our, Luxembourg) has given an review of the organisation of the Nature Parks in Luxembourg, which act as an instrument for the regional development.
The South Tyrolean Nature Parks were introduced by Dr. Artur Kammerer (Nature Parks Office, South Tirol). Dipl. biologist Ulrich Köster (Association of German Nature Parks) presented representative examples of the Nature Park management in Germany. The Slovenian principle of management plans for Nature Parks was presented by DI Stanka Dešnik (Nature Park Goričko, Slovenia). Dr. Ueli Stalder (Office for Municipalities and Regional Planning Canton Bern, Switzerland) gave insight into the developing model of the Swiss Nature Parks. Finally DI Gerhard Schlögl (IBS Landschaftsplanung, Regionalentwicklung) gave an overview about the varied factors of a successful and long-term Nature Park work supported by representative examples.

They were also continued in the breaks and after the convention. Retrospective this convention was a great success, because new approaches in Nature Park management could be taken home and lot´s of interesting contacts were made.
