1. International Nature and National Park convention – New trends in offer and product development in protected areas

Within the PaNaNet project (Pannonian Nature Network) the Regionalmanagement Burgenland GmbH invited together with the Association of Austrian Nature Parks on the 19th of November 2010 to the first International Nature and National Park convention in Bad Sauerbrunn in the Nature Park Rosalia-Kogelberg.

After the greeting and opening of the conference by Bgm. Friederike Reismüller (Nature Park Rosalia-Kogelberg), Bgm. Mag. Wolfgang Mair (President VNÖ), LAbg. Bgm. Josef Loos and LR Ing. Werner Falb-Meixner, the PaNaNet project was introduced by DI Thomas Böhm (ARGE Naturparke Burgenland). The intend of the project is to raise the acceptance of the protected areas in the population. By interlinking the westpannonian protected areas should be able to establish outstanding "Nature experience" offers. A qualitative advancement of the facilities is as necessary as appropriate offers for nature-touristic target groups.

The intend of the convention was to indicate new trends and ideas how protected areas can establish nature-touristic offers as well as the presentation of modern marketing strategies and well-chosen successful stories from different Nature and National Parks. 80 participants from Austria, Germany and Hungary could exchange experiences with.

In different presentations experts from Austria and Hungary discussed the subject from different points of view:

Univ. Prof. Dr. Ulrike Pröbstl (Universität für Bodenkultur) presented different strategies for successful positioning of protected areas in the tourism. Mag. (FH) Richard Bauer (Österreich Werbung) showed how nature-touristic offers fit in existing marketing strategies. The manager of the VNÖ, Franz Handler, discussed the results of the study „Touristic potentials of the Austrian Nature Parks“. About the possibilities of the use of modern GIS and GPS systems informed DI Clemens Trautwein (Green-solutions Austria). Csaba Horváth from the National Park Örség reported about new nature-touristic offers in the National Park. Franz Grabenhofer (Nature Park Pöllauer Tal) presented the Nature Park with wonderful pictures and explained the added value by nature conservation and tourism at the example of the Pöllauer Hirschbirne. Dr. Annamária Kopek reported about the integration of old Hungarian domestic animal races in the offer development of the National Park Balaton-Oberland. The cooperation of the Styrian Nature Parks and the project „Blühende Gesundheit“ were presented by Bernhard Stejskal (Association Naturpark.Erlebnis.Steiermark). The National Park Fertő-Hanság and its successful international cooperation with the National Park Neusiedler See-Seewinkel was presented by István Goda.

During the breaks and after the conference the participants discussed, exchanged experiences and developed new ideas.
